What is the £10,000 for?
Identify whether the need is equipment, stock, a customer-payment delay or a shortfall that repeats every month. A one-off loan does not repair a trading model that consistently spends more than it earns. Set out how the funding produces cash or supports an identified obligation.
If £10,000 is the net cash required, ask whether setup fees are deducted or added to the balance. An offer for £10,000 may not release £10,000 into the bank after deductions. A modest contingency can help, but borrowing extra still creates extra cost.
Illustrative repayments: monthly payment versus total cost
Assuming £10,000.00 borrowed at a fixed 12% nominal annual interest rate, calculated monthly on the reducing balance, with equal monthly payments and no fees: over 12 months the payment is approximately £888.49, total interest £661.85 and total repayable £10,661.85.
With the same amount and assumed rate over 36 months, the payment is approximately £332.14, total interest £1,957.15 and total repayable £11,957.15. The longer term reduces the monthly payment but increases the total interest. Calculations use unrounded payments; a lender’s rounding and final instalment may differ.
Eligibility for a £10,000 business loan
Providers assess more than the requested amount. They may review trading history, business bank statements, ownership, existing debt and credit information. A company’s small borrowing request does not remove these checks or mean a personal guarantee will be waived.
There is no universal minimum turnover for this amount. Compare the payment with cash left after wages, suppliers, tax and existing borrowing. A low-revenue business can find a small fixed instalment harder to service than a larger business with dependable surplus cash.

An eligible founder may consider the official Start Up Loans personal-loan scheme, but it has its own process and personal liability. It should not be confused with a company loan or with Shareholder’s general limited-company finance enquiry.
The published Growth Guarantee Scheme minimum for term loans is £25,001, so a £10,000 term loan is not within that category. Some other GGS facility types have lower minima, but they serve different needs and must meet their own criteria.
Would a different facility be a better fit?
For a specific tool or machine, compare asset finance, including the deposit, ownership and termination cost. For a very short gap, consider whether agreed supplier terms or a suitable revolving facility avoids paying for borrowing longer than needed.
A business credit card may suit eligible purchases if the supplier accepts it and repayment is manageable. It is not equivalent to a £10,000 cash loan. Check interest, personal guarantees and the consequences of carrying the balance.
A few things worth knowing
Common questions
Can I get a £10,000 loan without a personal guarantee?
That depends on the provider and product. Unsecured borrowing does not itself mean there is no personal guarantee.
What are repayments on a £10,000 business loan?
They depend on the offered rate, fees and term. This page compares assumed 12- and 36-month schedules at a 12% nominal annual rate with no fees; these are illustrations, not offers.
Is £10,000 too small for a business loan?
Some products cover this amount and others have higher minima. Compare eligible products rather than assuming every advertised provider accepts the same range.
