£100,000 business loans

A £100,000 business loan can support expansion, a major purchase or a defined working-capital requirement. The borrowing case should show how the investment turns into cash, when repayments begin and how existing obligations will still be met. Compare security and all fees alongside the repayment schedule.

Separate expansion costs from working capital

Opening a new location can involve a lease deposit, fit-out, equipment, recruitment and operating cash before the site contributes revenue. A £100,000 budget should show these uses separately so the funding does not run out at opening.

Use a project forecast alongside the company-wide forecast. The original business may need to support repayments while the new investment ramps up. Include delays and a slower sales build rather than assuming the extra location immediately repeats an established site’s performance.

Illustrative repayments: monthly payment versus total cost

Assuming £100,000.00 borrowed at a fixed 12% nominal annual interest rate, calculated monthly on the reducing balance, with equal monthly payments and no fees: over 36 months the payment is approximately £3,321.43, total interest £19,571.52 and total repayable £119,571.52.

With the same amount and assumed rate over 60 months, the payment is approximately £2,224.44, total interest £33,466.69 and total repayable £133,466.69. The longer term reduces the monthly payment but increases the total interest. Calculations use unrounded payments; a lender’s rounding and final instalment may differ.

What a £100,000 lender assessment may need

Prepare recent accounts, bank statements, management information, ownership details, the use of funds and existing commitments. A lender may want a detailed explanation of the business’s current position rather than relying only on the latest filed accounts.

Reconcile revenue, profit and cash movement. Explain customer concentration, overdue debts, unusual bank transactions or substantial changes in costs. The amount alone does not establish a minimum turnover rule; the provider assesses the whole proposal.

Personal guarantees and asset security

Some products offer this amount without a specified asset charge, while others use collateral. An unsecured loan can still require a director’s personal guarantee. Check whether it is capped, how default is handled and when it is released.

For a secured facility, ask about valuation costs, charge priority, legal fees and the effect on future borrowing. If the business depends on the pledged asset to trade, enforcement can affect both the balance sheet and future cash generation.

Compare the right facility for each part of the investment

Equipment may be funded through an asset agreement, while a receivables gap may suit invoice finance. Eligible businesses can also explore a Growth Guarantee Scheme facility through an accredited lender. The government guarantee does not reduce the borrower’s full repayment responsibility.

Compare net funds and the total combined commitment if more than one product is used. A lower monthly instalment can hide a balloon payment or extend debt beyond the useful life of the project. Shareholder’s referral is not a confirmed offer for this amount or product.

A few things worth knowing

Common questions

Can a £100,000 business loan be unsecured?

Some providers publish unsecured products covering this amount, subject to underwriting. Personal guarantees and other conditions can still apply.

Is £100,000 available through the Growth Guarantee Scheme?

It falls within the published general term-loan size range, but scheme eligibility, lender appetite, affordability and applicable group or subsidy limits still need assessment.

Should I borrow £100,000 just because it is offered?

No. Compare the evidenced funding gap and repayment capacity with the offered amount. Unused borrowing can still create fees, interest and personal exposure.
